Koehntop Motorsports got its start in dirt track racing in 2006 when they purchased a 2004 J-Car from Cyrus, Mn Modified driver Terry Engebretson. Kyle teamed up with Russ Sower of Sower Power Racing Engines (Parkers Prairie, Mn) to supply the motors and the team partcipated in it's first event in April of 2006. Although 2006 proved to be a learning year behind the wheel, Kyle amassed many top ten finishes and consistent runs. With no prior go-kart experience to rely on: Kyle, his father Roger and the whole Koehntop Motorsports crew will continue to learn as the valuable time passes.

A new paint scheme and a new attitude were both unveiled in the spring of 2007 for Koehntop Motorsports. As the year went on, Kyle found himself gaining more and more confidence improving each week. 2007 proved to be a great year for Koehntop as he garnered six top five finishes as well as nine top ten's. The month of July proved to be a great one for Koehntop at Viking Speedway. During three consecutive weekly shows, Koehntop found himself in the top five each night. Kyle's finest run of the season came on July 14th when he tallied a second place finish, one car length behind race winner Josh Thoennes.

Although Viking Speedway was their home in 2007, Team Koehntop made stops at a variety of WISSOTA venues. Along with their home track in Alex, Kyle also participated at: KRA Speedway in Willmar, Mn; Fiesta City Speedway in Montevideo, Mn; Madison Speedway in Madison, Mn; and Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, SD. Perhaps Kyle finest accomplishment during the 2007 season was a sixth place finish during the Governor's Ethanol Tour. The Governor's Ethanol Challenge features a four night series for WISSOTA Midwest Modified with stops scheduled at four different WISSOTA sanctioned facilities. When the final points were tallied, Kyle finished just 36 markers behind tour champ Jason Hoffman.

Consistency at his home track, the Viking Speedway, proved to be the staple of his 2007 season. With some of the finest WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds in the country participating there each and every Saturday night, a ninth place finish in points was a very impressive accomplishment. Team Koehntop will look to improve once again in 2008 and have fun while doing it.
